History
Your gift can provide an OHIO student with a brand new perspective. Now more than ever, historical awareness is necessary to understand our world and to encourage civic engagement. Ohio University’s first-rate faculty and students further that awareness with foundational experiences in and outside of the classroom. Research, internships, and study abroad programs connect students' study of the past to the world around them.
Samantha Lamka ’20 retraced Mexican independence on a trip to Guanajuato, Mexico, giving her “a whole new perspective of what history really means.”
Doctoral student Heather Salazaar visited military archives and presidential libraries to access “just about everything declassified about the Granada Invasion” for her dissertation.
In addition to winning awards in the classroom, faculty are oft-cited experts and have authored recent books and articles on punk rock during the Reagan years, freedom of speech, Civil War diplomacy in Europe, Vietnamese mass mobilization, and Cold War national security.
Gifts from alumni and friends support these activities, and more, for students and faculty in the department. Your gift can provide:
- Student scholarships (especially for travel/internships)
- Faculty research/travel, key for maintaining its international reputation
- Programming
- Other unexpected needs
Thank you for your support!
