The Sugar Bush Foundation is now accepting Letters of Inquiry for FY 27-28.

Sugar Bush currently prioritizes projects that make a lasting impact on lives, local food systems, socio-economic development, and/or the environment of Appalachian Ohio. The Sugar Bush Foundation does not fund capital projects and does not fund health-care-related initiatives unless connected to another area of priority.

The Letter of Inquiry template is accessible below. Please submit your completed Letter of Inquiry, along with any attachments, as a single PDF emailed to sugarbushfoundation@ohio.edu by 11:59 p.m., November 30, 2026.

Project Requirements

The Sugar Bush Foundation funds collaborations between Ohio University and community nonprofits or governmental agencies.

For a project to be eligible for Sugar Bush Foundation funding, all the following must be true: 

  • An Ohio University, Athens or branch campus, college, center, planning unit, or program must be an active partner in the planning and implementation of the project with at least one community partner. 
  • The community partner must be a registered 501(c)(3) organization or government entity.
  • The project impacts at least one of Ohio’s Appalachian counties.
  • The project must make a lasting impact on lives, socio-economic development, and/or the environment of Appalachian Ohio.
  • The project must involve at least one Ohio University student. 
  • The Sugar Bush Foundation does not fund capital projects and does not fund health-care-related initiatives unless connected to another area of priority.
